Crafty Vaporizer Review

Crafty Vaporizer

Crafty Vaporizer ReviewIn the market for a hybrid convection vaporizer but baffled by the range of choices out there? Well, let’s cut straight to the chase and make a bold statement.

The Crafty vaporizer from Storz and Bickel is without question one of the finest portable models on the market.

Combining style with stereotypical German functionality has managed to deliver a truly exceptional hybrid convection-based device.

Perfect for enjoying both dry herbs and concentrates with impeccable ease, this is hands down one of the best such products we’ve ever had the privilege to review.

Interested in finding out why? Read on, dear readers!

A Convenient & Portable Vaporizer

You may already be familiar with a couple of other Storz & Bickel vape devices, especially the famous static Volcano Classic unit.

Their plan with the Crafty vaporizer is once again in the name – to combine that level of outstanding vape production but in a portable package.

This vaporizer is most certainly craftily discreet. Finished in a kind of cyber-punk style and also conveniently able to stand up straight (a big annoyance about the Mighty range) it looks cool and clearly means business.

Weighing in at just 136 grams and 11.0 cm x 5.7 cm x 3.3 cm in size, it’s far more ‘pocket-sized’ than the highly reviewed Mighty vaporizer (also from Storz & Bickel), but of course, the big question is how well it compares in regards to performance.

A Truly Amazing Vaping Experience

Almost as if they’re trying to confirm their status as one of the world’s leading vape design companies, they’ve somehow managed to pack the performance of the Mighty in the Crafty model.

It uses the same hybrid convection/conduction heating system and delivers – in our opinion – just as good a vape. By good, we mean literally as good as it’s probably possible to get!

As would be expected, the capacity is considerably smaller but still more than enough to get through a couple of decent sessions. We found that even half full with a dry herb mix (the maximum capacity is 0.25 grams), performance was not in the slightest bit compromised.

What you will notice is that it’s extremely functional and easy to use – some words that are rarely used in association with super-premium vaporizers.

There are two pre-programmed heat settings (Default 356F and Boost 383F), and in all honesty, not a massively noticeable difference between the two.

What’s much more interesting and makes a considerable difference to your vaping experience is that the temperature can be set between 104F to 410F. That provides plenty of room to establish your personal favourite heating limit, and of course, this can also be programmed and saved into the device.

Instead of flipping through endless fiddly menus and sub-menus, there’s the option to download a Crafty vaporizer app (available for both Android and iOS).

Crafty Vaporizer App

At first, this sounded like it may be a little gimmicky, but it’s actually a fantastic USP of this kit. Not only does it allow you to determine your temperature within a couple of seconds, but it also provides alerts for when the unit is ready to enjoy and about to power off.

Make no mistake, this is a brilliant app and will save you from unnecessarily burning through your supplies when the unit is left on accidentally. Try it out and you’ll see exactly what we mean!

The Battery Life Is Not Ideal

Best Place To Buy

So far, so good. But nothing is perfect.

There was inevitably going to be a drawback on the battery life given how small and portable this kit is.

Compared once again to the Mighty, we’d optimistically say that with ‘typical’ use this vaporizer has perhaps around half the equivalent battery life.

Clearly, the manufacturers didn’t want to compromise on the vape quality (and we credit them for that as it’s naturally the most important factor), but it’s something some users will want to consider carefully.

Over a few days we found that from a fully charged battery using moderate temperature settings the device provided around 45 minutes of continual use.

By our estimation, that’s four ten minute sessions a day allowing for heating up time.

The device can also be used when charging – a neat feature – providing you have around 20% of residual battery life. A full recharge takes about 2 hours when left alone.

Overall, it may sound a bit of a downer, but that’s an inevitable compromise for an otherwise amazing pocket vaporizer.

Packing, Cooling & Cleaning

Plenty of thought has gone into making these essential techniques as easy as possible.

The device works great regardless of load. It’s a simple case of popping your ingredients into the mixer, screwing together and charging it up for a vape.

More importantly, the cooling chamber actually works superbly (unlike plenty of other products we could mention) and this serves to keep the mouthpiece perfectly benign even with long sessions.

A cleaning kit is included as standard as well as instructions but we’d suggest also picking up some cleaning solution (minimum 91% alcohol) for convenience as well. Cleaning out the tank and mouthpiece takes a minute – tops.

Conclusion & Rating

If it weren't for the inevitable issues with the battery life then we'd have no hesitation in scoring the Crafty vaporizer a perfect 5 out of 5.

When it comes to producing amazing vape, design quality and sheer practicality, it's nothing short of a delight to use.

Quite a few people who have opted for the Crafty also invest in a portable battery unit - available from Amazon for no more than £20. It may sound like a cobbled together solution, but if you plan on taking this to places where charging opportunities may be rare (festivals, hikes, etc) then it's an ideal and inexpensive remedy.

The battery life is a minor inconvenience and not an actual design or performance flaw - which is why this is perhaps the best of its kind currently out there. Very highly recommended indeed!
